The bad news: OpenOffice does not include a replacement for Outlook. If all you use outlook for is email, Mozilla Thunderbird might be just what you need. We have several clients using the Thunderbird + OpenOffice combination on recent purchases, and there are no major issues exchanging email and sharing files with users of older versions of the Microsoft suite. If your organization is using an Exchange server, and you rely heavily on public folders or Outlook calendaring and contacts, you’re probably out of luck. Older versions of Microsoft Small Business Server included client licenses for Outlook, but newer ones require a separate Outlook purchase on top of the per-user license for the server itself.
